The Full Story Behind this One Bedroom Gut Renovation Design

This one-bedroom apartment gut renovation in Manhattan showcases the seamless blend of modern glam style and expert craftsmanship that defines Paula McDonald Design Build & Interiors full-service design build approach. The project involved a complete interior restoration, including the removal of walls to expand the kitchen and create an open-concept layout with a large island flowing into the living and dining areas.

Upgrades included a bathroom conversion from tub to walk-in shower, a full electrical panel upgrade and rewiring, new through-the-wall heating and air conditioning units, and the installation of exotic engineered wood flooring throughout. The result is a space that perfectly captures the client’s vision — a Modern Glam home with elevated finishes and timeless sophistication.

The interior design was completed with luxurious custom furnishings, including a foyer étagère, console table, leather chair, and metallic hide ottoman with a polished steel finish. A custom-upholstered living room sofa and dining chairs from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, a foyer wall mirror, and faux-shagreen upholstered Sylvie stools from Made Goods add layers of texture and elegance. The dining area wallpaper by Phillip Jeffries ties the entire space together.

Paula McDonald Design Build & Interiors experience spans gut renovations and design build projects across co-ops, condos, lofts, and townhomes throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, including both pre-war and post-war residential NYC buildings. From construction to restoration, Paula McDonald Design Build & Interiors delivers elevated spaces that reflect our clients’ unique style and vision.
