How Home Design Trends Changed After 2020

Our definition of “home” used to be where we retreated after work or school, and mostly a place for resting and lounging. Since 2020, all of our lives have vastly changed with the coronavirus pandemic, and now we work, socialize, home school, exercise, and more from our home. As we’re all adjusting the spaces and fit into our daily necessities, here are some design trends that we think are taking over in 2021.

1. WALLPAPER IN ROOMS

Wallpaper and pattern play will continue to dominate than monochromatic schemes, especially when it comes to making your space “zoom-friendly”.

2. YELLOW AND GRAY

Pantone has named two unusual colors as their shades for 2021: Illuminating, a bright yellow, and Ultimate Gray, a pale gray. These can be interpreted as interior decors such as wall colors, cushions, chairs, statement pieces, etc.

3. HOME OFFICE/CORNER

A dedicated space for home office is essential with more days spent in home for both work and education. A desk light or natural light is key to add style to an office area with crisp lines, focus on Art, and never enough storage!!

4. LUXURIOUS FOCAL POINTS IN DECORS

There is a strong trend away from over the top ultra-glamorous decors which has been my foundation in design – elegant simplicity. It stands to reason that with more time spent in homes, a splash of color and luxurious accents lift an interior’s mood and feeling.

5. SMART HOME/NUHEAT

Whether it’s a heated floor, temperature control, automated sound or blind system, or an electric fireplace, smart home systems make our daily settings mindless and easy. We design apartments to have everything controlled from mobile apps or Alexa and have automatic settings/scenes for different times of the day. With more things to take care of in our daily lives, these smart systems are the must-haves that we didn’t know we wanted.
